MACdriving is based in Newtown, Powys but lessons can be given and experience gained in all local towns and villages - see below. Our aim is to teach the trainee to be a safe and confident driver, both now and long into the future, not just simply to concentrate on test routes and to pass the test. You will always have a say in where you would like your lessons to take place especially if there are certain routes you know you’ll be driving in the future.
We are happy to pick up from, and begin and end lessons in Newtown, Welshpool, Llanidloes, Montgomery, Churchstoke, Llanbadarn, Llanfair Caereinion and all areas in between.

Lessons are available seven days a week and throughout the day and evening. We will strive to tailor your lesson times and durations to suit your needs. Lessons can be booked in single, double or even longer sessions if needed. This also gives you the option to book lessons on different days and different times of the day ensuring a more rounded experience of driving.
Sessions will be carried out with a client-centred approach allowing every trainee to feel comfortable and with a strong sense of ownership throughout every lesson. Trainees will be involved in setting their own goals and targets as well as assessing their own progress to encourage a higher level of learning which will then hopefully continue long after they have passed their test.
I have been a local primary school teacher for over twenty years and still do the odd day’s supply. I needed a new challenge, but still wanted to use my skills and experience as a teacher, so a driving instructor seemed the perfect job. I also remember how excited I was to learn to drive and have always loved cars and driving ever since!
I carried out my ADI training in the summer of 2019 with the AA Driving School in a Ford Focus Titanium and it was superb. For this reason, this is the car I have opted for. I feel that its safety features (Lane Departure Assistance, Pre-collision Assist & much more), driver aids (Speed Limit Recognition, Electronic Parking Brake, Front & Rear Parking Sensors, etc.) in addition to just how easy, comfortable (Climate Control & Heated Seats!) and enjoyable it is to drive make it the perfect car for any trainee!

All lessons must be paid for prior to the session or on arrival. Payments can be made by bank transfer or with cash.
This includes picking up and dropping anywhere in Newtown. You will also have a minimum of one hour’s driving with any briefings/debriefs carried out outside of this time. Lessons will never overlap so you will never share the car with another trainee or have your lesson cut short. You will also receive a text reminder the day before your lesson.
Ideal if one hour isn’t quite long enough or if you are starting your lesson from out of town!
Ideally the best option for maximum progress. Allows for a more varied lesson and the most time/cost effective for you and your learning in the long term.
This is a price for two hours. This includes: a lesson before the test; the use of the car during the test; a debrief if required after your test; picking up and taking you home.
N.B. The £62 test fee does not pay for me or the car - I do not receive any of this fee.
Get driving quickly and safely in as little as a week! See below for examples - please call for availability and to tailor your course to suit you and what you need.
Ideal if you were reaching the end of your training and need a refresher course following the lockdown. Can be used if you have failed your test with someone else before and want to correct any faults/habits before booking/sitting your next test. Also, perfect if you have taken your training/test in another part of the country and want to get to know the local roads quickly.
Ideal if you have driven before or are lucky enough to have another car to practise in away from lessons. Be test ready in as little as 5 days!

Ideally the best option to allow for a broad and varied course including time towards the end of the course to try a number or different routes and journeys you may want to drive before you pass (Dual Carriageways, Shrewsbury, Oswestry, Llandrindod Wells, Aberystwyth, etc.).

From complete starters through to trainees at test standard. MACdriving is flexible to all of your needs - lesson times, lesson durations, pace of learning, teaching styles and techniques, etc.
The full DVSA syllabus will still be covered within the required hours of training, but in a faster timeframe. Intensive courses can be tailored in any way to suit you and your diary - subject to availability (please call to discuss).
As mentioned, we can tailor the course to suit you and your needs whichever hourly package you choose. We will then assess the way forward and anything else that may be needed both during and at the end of the course. Remember, learning will be accelerated significantly compared to the traditional 1 hour per week.
Please note: If you are planning to book/sit your test soon after the course, you must have passed your theory test first. Doing so prior to the course is highly recommended and will aid your learning/understanding greatly.
Pass Plus is an extra driving qualification over and above the driving test that gets you your full licence. It involves gaining vital experience dealing with situations which probably haven’t been covered in regular driving lessons. The Pass Plus course covers TOWN DRIVING, RURAL ROADS, NIGHT DRIVING, ALL WEATHER DRIVING, DUAL CARRIAGEWAYS and MOTORWAYS. There is no test but training must last for at least six hours and completion of this may result in cheaper insurance as well as making you a safer driver.

These are lessons tailored to Full Licence Holders to either want to improve or brush up on their skills in any area of driving - motorways, parking, night-driving, ECO-driving, etc. MACdriving will tailor the session to suit your needs.
This a FREE One hour driving assessment scheme aimed at helping older drivers in Powys to drive with more confidence and safety.
